Family Events

Join in with our Community Learning Programme and take part in an exciting creative adventure. Severn Project is offering creative learning opportunities with professional composers and musicians, dancers and singers, poets and performers. They are creating new music with schools and street theatre with youth groups, inspiring children and adults with creative writing opportunities and bringing local heritage to life through road shows for families.

Working together we can imagine, create and perform new songs and dances, stories and poems inspired by the River Severn, Gloucestershire’s landscape and cultural heritage.

Family Fun Road Shows – ‘Fish, Fykes & Ferries’

Find out about the River Severn's unique heritage at one of Gloucestershire Archives FREE family fun road shows. Enjoy interactive storytelling by Spaniel in the Works Theatre and meet five different characters, played by actor John Bassett, who once lived and worked on the Severn. Discover why they each think the river is important for different reasons. Learn about strange fish, shipwrecks and decoying ducks! Get creative with artist Melanie Russell and make cardboard ships, rocking whales and Severn bores!

Suitable for parents/carers and children aged 5 and over. Events will be taking place at:

• Tewkesbury Library - Sat 20th June – Drop in art activities between 10am and 4pm with storytelling performances at 10.15pm, 12pm and 2pm
• Lydney Library – Sat 27th June – Drop in art activities between 10am and 4pm with storytelling performances at 10.15pm, 12pm and 2pm
• Stonehouse Community Centre – Sat 25th July – Stonehouse Fete admission fee applies

‘Tales of the River Severn’ – film show at the Roses Theatre

Summer Reading Challenge – for ‘Quest Seekers’

Gloucestershire Libraries are offering FREE workshops for children aged 8-11 to create their own poems on a ‘River Quests’ theme with Alice Oswald the nationally acclaimed poet. Workshops are being held in local libraries:
